Disculpen al man, está medio feo, pero al parecer los consejos sí son buenos. Como todo lo DIY (hazlo tú mismo) siempre hay que tener ciertas consideraciones, por ejemplo, ustedes le pondrían el equipo que vimos en el video a un lente que cuesta 1400 dólares, yo no. Sin embargo nunca está de más saber cómo se puede hacer.

El follow focus sirve para la Canon 7d, como la que te rentamos aquí.

Utilizan lente de hace 102 años para realizar video

Timur Civan realizó este pequeño video, cuya caracteristica es que el lente que se utilizó en la Canon 5d mk II tiene 102 años, en las especificaciones del mismo, menciona que no se utilizó ningún tipo de correción de color.

Me llegó esto via twitter, es otra convocatoria para un concurso de un video acerca del cambio climático y la conciencia del uso correcto del agua. Más información en esta liga.

"El cierre de temporada de House, fue filmado completamente con la 5d"

Sin duda este tipo de cámaras (HDSLR's) están dando mucho de qué hablar, ya que cada vez más productoras y televisoras importantes las están utilizando para realizar productos de calidad a los que el público está acostumbrado. Ahora tocó el turno al capitulo final de la temporada de la aclamada serie House, el cual fue totalmente realizado con una Canon 5d Mk II, una cámara muy similar a la que te rentamos aquí.

Ya que esto fue un suceso "histórico", el director respondió una serie de preguntas via twitter, acá se las dejo, pero en resumidas cuentas menciona que no hubo mucha diferencia al trabajar con esta cámara y las cosas distintas en realidad fueron positivas, como más profundidad de campo y menor tamaño para realizar tomas en espacios apretados.

Concurso de Cineminuto; "Un minuto por los Derechos Humano"

La Comisión Nacional por los Derechos Humanos de las Naciones Unidas lanzó la convocatoria para realizar un cineminuto por los derechos humanos, abajo la información.

"Canon saca el firmware update para la Canon 5d Mk II"

Canon ofrece ya el nuevo firmware para la Canon 5d Mk II, les dejo una lista de las nuevas funciones, las cuales pueden encontrar en la página de Canon.

El update del firmware (versión 2.0.8) incluye los siguientes cambios y mejoras.

Se las dejo en inglés pues son un poquito dificiles de traducir.

1. Fixes a phenomenon in which movies are not taken at the shooting mode registered in the user’s settings if a shooting mode Aperture priority (or Shutter priority) is registered in any of the camera’s user settings (C1, C2, C3) and the user attempts to shoot a movie.
2. Fixes a phenomenon in which the shutter will not release when pressing the shutter button when the auto power off function is set to “on”.
3. Fixes a phenomenon in which overexposure occurs when shooting a Live View shooting simulation with the ISO speed set to L.
4. Fixes a phenomenon in which the settings of the Speedlite transmitter ST-E2 revert to the default settings when both the camera and the ST-E2 are set to auto power off.
5. Fixes a phenomenon in which the Macro Ring Lite (MR-14EX, MT-24EX) and slave flash do not sync while shooting wirelessly.

The Version 2.0.8 firmware being released this time is for cameras with firmware up to Version 2.0.7. If the camera’s firmware is already Version 2.0.8, it is not necessary to update the firmware.

"Como realizar un Rig para la Canon 7d, verdaderamente barato"

RENTA UN RIG PARA LA CANON 7D Y 5D MK II AQUÍ EN CINE7D

La página Cheesycam ha publicado un post, donde relata como realizar un rig verdaderamente barato, según esta página este rig se puede realizar por menos de 30 dólares (esto sin contar el equpo adicional, grabadora zoom, micrófono, etc). Les dejo el corto que realizó el músico John Mayer, titulado "Day in the Life", donde básicamente utlizó un Canon 5omm f/1.2 y un 24-70mm, la cámara que él utilizó es muy parecida a que aquí te rentamos.

Según reportes de cinema5d Philip Bloom probó ayer la recién desempacada cámara de Panasonic AF 100 la cual pinta para ser muy prometedora para las cineastas independientes. Según lo que dice Panasonic, esta cámara será compatible con la mayoría de los lentes, mediante un adaptador. Bloom estará probando la cámara en londrés por algunos días. En su twitter Philip habla de las pruebas con baja luz, mismas que les dejo en el vídeo arriba.

En palabras de Philip Bloom y tomado de su sitio:

"Haré tantas pruebas como pueda, desafortunadamente el tiempo no es ideal, mañana tengo que filmar así que no podré hacer nada con la cámara. Las primeras impresiones son buenas, he tomada un poco de imagenes a 3200 ISO i se ve bastante bien! Es bueno tener algunas características en este tipo de cámaras que se extrañan en las DSLR's.

"Es increíble tener 4 settings para filtros de densidad neutra, un histograma de buena calidad, entrada XLR, zebras y entrada para audifonos, la lista continua y continua...

Pues aquí les dejo su prueba, a ver que opinan ya que esta cámara no es tan económica con una DSLR que les rentamos aquí, pues so precio oscila entre los 4 y los 5 mil dólares.

"Canon 24-105mm f/4 L USM Review"

Navegando por la red me encontré esta reseña del lente Canon 24-105mm, el cual te rentamos aquí, un lente que según the digital picture es lo mejor de lo mejor. A continuación la reseña:

"Boasting the superb build, mechanical and optical quality found in the Canon L-Series Lenses and a widely used range of focal lengths, the Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM Lens is one of the best and most popular Canon general purpose lenses made. The Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM Lens quickly became one of my favorites. If I had only one lens, this would be the one.

One of the most important features in a lens is the focal length or focal length range - get it wrong and you might not be able to take the shots you want. And the use for a particular focal length or focal length range varies, of course, depending on the FOVCF of the body being used. That said, this lens gives us a very nice general purpose focal range to work with. On a full frame body, 24mm is very wide. On a 1.6x body, 24mm is only moderately wide (equivalent of 38.4mm). I am sure that many Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8 L Lens owners will also have a 24-105mm L in their kit. Indoor event photographers will *probably* select the 24-70 L while landscape/outdoor, travel and portrait photographers might prefer the Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM Lens.

For my personal uses in this focal length range, the Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM Lens is on my camera more than the 24-70 L. If your needs are for wider focal lengths and you are using a 1.6x FOVCF body, you should also consider the Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM Lens. It is another excellent choice.

HDSLR Monitor

Supongo que muchas personas, (como yo), se están preguntando cual es el mejor monitor de referencia cuando se graba video con una Canon 7d, o una 5d mk II, me parece que no hay una sola respuesta. Sin embargo, revisando en los foros donde se comenta mucho acerca de este tema, encontré una compañia que se llama SmallHD la cual crea monitores especificamente diseñados para la grabación de video digital con este tipo de cámaras. Al parecer cualquier monitor HDMI 4X3 o 16X9 serviría, la realidad es otra. Cuando la cámara manda la señal a este tipo de monitores, el video se viñetea, perdiento un gran porcentaje de la imagen en el monitor, dejando dos espacios en negro a cada lado del monitor,(lo cual en realidad es muy molesto). Smallhd diseño el DP6 un monitor que además de tener varios tipos de salidas, tiene la capacidad de ajustar la imagen enteramente al tamaño del monitor, (con un zoom), esto hace que la calidad de la imagen y el tamaño sea mayor al de la mayoria de monitores de la competencia. Con un precio base de $800 dólares, no es un producto barato, sin embargo si están dispuestos a invertirle un poco al equipo, este es el tipo del monitor que deberían considerar.

Utilizan Canon 7d y 5d en programa de Jamie Oliver

Cada vez es más común el uso de este tipo de cámaras en produccciones como esta, la llegada de las cámaras HDSLR sin duda ha revolucionado la manera en la que la televisión y el cine están haciendo las cosas. En este video, un behind the scenes de 30 minutes meals, de Jamie Oliver, la directora explica que para la mayor parte de las tomas utilizan la RED ONE, sin embargo para las tomas complicadas, en las cuales es difícil montar una RED, están utilizando la CANON 7d, una cámara como la que aquí te rentamos. En el video se puede observar como tiene una Canon ahí, y el lente que utilizan es el de lujo de canon, el del anillo rojo, igual al que nosotros te rentamos.

Making future magic: Ipad Light painting, es una colaboración entre Dentsu London y BERG. Ellos hicieron un video en stop motion usando un Ipad y una cámara Canon como la que aquí rentamos, echenle un ojo, está bastante creativo.

No dudo que en un futuro algun "creativo" de alguna agencia de publicidad aquí en México le haga un homenaje (osea se robe la idea, je)

"The last three minutes" un corto patrocinado por Canon

En la página de Canon encontramos este pequeño corto titulado "The last Three Minutes", dirigido por Po Chan y fotografiado por Shane Hurlbut, ASC, en el mismo se ven las maravillosas ventajas de utilizar estas cámaras, se menciona que unicamente se utilizó una 5d mk II y lentes Canon L, abajo les copio la lista del equipo que se utilizó y demás especificaciones técnicas.

"Canon Presenta el lente EF 8-15mm con la presentación del corto "With"

Canon presentó el lente EF 8-15mm F/4 L Fisheye USM, con la realización de un corto titulado "with", me parece que haciendo referencia a la palabra "Width" que quiere decir ancho o abierto.
El corto se realizó unicamente utilizando este lente de ojo de pescado el cual se menciona cuando llegue a las tiendas tendrá un costo aproximado de 1400 dólares apróximadamente.

En esta liga pueden ver el video o directamente en la página de Canon Japón.

También a la par de este corto incluyen en la página el "Making off", el cual me parece que está mejor que el mismo video, en este se ve como se usan unos pequeños helicopteros para realizar las tomas aereas, les recomiendo que la vean aquí, está muy interesante.

Este corto se realizó con la misma cámara que rentamos aquí, utilizando un gran angular del mismo tipo del lente con el cual se renta la cámara, los lentes de lujo de Canon, tiene un arillo rojo y llevan la letra L, en el paquete básico de la cámara que puedes rentar aquí lleva un lente de lujo 24-105mm f/4 L USM.

"Las Mejores grabadoras para las HDSLR"

DSLR DESIRES: 2 OF 5 - DSLR AUDIO *UPDATE

So the original desire that many filmmakers wanted with their DSLR was XLR capability. Since that is what “the people” wanted to hear about, it’s what I went looking for. Well after some thought, and a load of interesting opinions, I’m updating our search to include all audio in general to cover all bases. Cool?

AlainP, over at Canon5DTips did a great job reporting on a handful of external audio devices that are worth mentioning. And since audio devices are as abundant as DSLR choices, it all really comes down to what you’ll be using it for…

One of the phrases that likes to be tossed around is: “Filmmakers should be used to using an external audio device anyways.” I agree, we are used to it. Does that mean we what to keep doing it that way? No, not really, syncing audio is a pain in the ass. Especially with DSLR video that wasn’t made to handle audio like a professional video camera does…

Probably the most popular audio device for DSLR filmmakers right now is the Samson Zoom H4N. This guy packs a great punch and is pretty affordable for a low-budget filmmaker. Price is a set at a modest $299. Here a couple of the features:

-Built-in X/Y stereo mics record at either 90° or 120°
-Four channel simultaneous recording using built-in and external mics
-2 XLR inputs with phantom power allow recording with any mic
-Records on SD/SDHC media of up to 32GB for maximum recording time
-Records at CD quality, 16-bit/44.1kHz resolution.
-Built-in mounting joint for tripod and mic stand mounting
-USB 2.0 port for faster file transfer

The guys at Zacuto love it and actually teach classes on advanced DSLR audio with it. The most common complaint is the built-in mics inability to handle wind noise. Kinda makes sense.

The second most popular audio recorder is the M-Audio Microtrack II. This guy is a bit of a downgrade from the H4N, but still holds it’s own. It also records to CF cards which helps when you only want to use one type of card for both audio and video. Here’s some of the features:

-2 channel WAV (BWF) and MP3 recording and playback
-1/4 inch TRS inputs with line inputs and 48V phantom-powered mic preamps

Unfortunately, it doesn’t have XLR inputs, but the audio is still pretty damn good. And at $189, it does a fantastic job.

Next is one of the top of the line external audio recorders, the Fostex FR2LE. We all know Fostex for their DAT recorders; a real staple in the film world. I know I’ve used Fostex DAT when I ran sound for a couple 16mm shorts. Real good quality, but hefty price tag at $599. Here’s some of the features:

-Records to CompactFlash in Broadcast WAV Format (BWF) or MP3 at 24bit 96kHz quality.
-2 professional phantom powered XLR microphone inputs.
-Features a 1 take = 1 file recording system which eliminates overwrites.
-2 second ‘pre-record’ buffer.
-USB 2.0 for high speed file transfer.
-Designed specifically for location sound recording.

Basically for anyone who has used Fostex before, this is the best of the best for compact audio recording on a run-and-gun film set.

The next two audio recorders I will mention are really for those people who want direct contact with their audio and the camera itself. The first of which is the BeachTek DXA-5D, which was designed with the Canon 5D Mark II in mind. It’s pretty inexpensive as well, at $375. Here’s some of the features:

-Disables the camera’s audio gain.
-2 48V phantom powered XLR inputs with manual controls.
-Headphone & Line output jacks.
-Works best with Canon 5D Mark II, Canon 7D, and Nikon D300s.
-Camera & tripod mountable.

With all the DSLR specific design aspects, this device seems like a no brainer. No syncing in post and easy to use. But sometimes having an external device allows for a little more creativity with your sound, which I know a lot of people like. It’s all up to personal use.

Lastly, there is one more audio recorder that fares well in the DSLR market. It’s the juicedLink CX231. Set a little cheaper than the BeachTek at $299, it holds up well with a lot of the same features:

-48V and 12V Phantom powered XLR inputs.
-1/8″ (3.5mm) Mini Output.
-Three Gain Settings.
-Camera & Tripod Mountable.

Ok, so now that I’ve gone on and on about this crap, it’s time for everyone to make their own opinions on what they want to use. I’ve presented options, that’s all.

Timslice Film utiliza 52 cámaras canon para Spot de Rip Curl

Time Slice Films realizó un spot para Rip Curl, en este ambicioso proyecto se utilizaron 52 cámaras Canon EOS 7d y un montón de lap tops, según reportan en el sitio cinema5d.com varias camaras y lap tops no sobrevivieron, esto debido al agua y las circunstancias extremas en las que se utilizaron.

Pues ya ven, otra de las muchas maneras en las que se pueden utilizar estas tecnologias, digo no es lo mismo que se eche a perder una cámara de 25oo dólares como es la 7d a una de 25 mil o una de cine de 120 mil, no creen?

Shooting weddings & corporate videos with the Canon 7D has been one of the funnest aspects of running a video production company. Just our Wedding division alone has booked over 35 weddings for 2010 and we’re steadily filling up the calendar for 2011 and even 2012. Last fall I made the decision to adopt Video SLR technology that others told me would be a bad move. I was hearing it from all angles. “Don’t buy that camera, wait until the bugs are fixed”.. “I would never adopt new technology like that.” Good thing I didn’t listen to those guys. We’re slowly seeing an increase of clients that specifically request our company because of the look and feel we can deliver.

Below you’ll find a list of some of the Top 10 canon 7D accessories we have found useful for our company. This in no way is supposed to be a comprehensive list. Just some of the new tools we’re using. We’re also not paid to advertise for these companies.. Although we’re all ears if the right offer comes along.

First, you’ll need the actual camera body itself. The prices are dropping recently and you can probably pick one up for about $1500-$1600

Top 10 Canon 7D Accessories for Videography

1. You’re going to need some lenses. Start with one of the most popular lens, we shoot with the 17-55mm 2.8 IS for most of the work we do. Even though it’s not an L series lens we like the fact it has image stabilization and most EOS L series lenses don’t have IS until you step up to the telephotos.

2. Another great lens is the 70-200 L f4 IS or the 70-200 L 2.8. Obviously the 2.8 is more expensive however the f4 has served us just fine. Unless your using it in doors you can get away with the 4 instead of the 2.8.

3. Once you have all your lenses and body, you’ll need to be able to mount it on a tripod. Red Rock Micro offers a number of DSLR rig kits. You can even build your own. You’ll need a base plate with rods. We’ve had good luck with our set up.

4. Your rig is still not complete because you’ll need some sort of focus assist. A good place to start would be to get a follow focus system. Again, Red Rock Micro offers a great option if you’re looking to save some money. Their follow focus version 2 is great and is reasonable priced for the quality and build of it.

5. You’ll still need more focus assistance while shooting with the Canon 7D because of the small screen. You can either go with a Zacuto viewfinder or you can go for a full blown LCD. We suggest both given your shooting conditions. The viewfinder for the 7D is very good and the magnification helps greatly.

6. If you want to do it right, go with the LCD. Marshall offers a great option. The Marshall V LCD651ST is one of the best HD LCDs on the market and as of today’s pricing they just lowered it from $1,695 to $1,394.95. Can’t beat that!

7. Almost done. Your rig is just about there. Once you have all this sweet gear you’ll need media to record to. We suggest getting at least 16GB CF cards with a minimum of 60mb/s. You’ll Probably need about 4-8 of these bad boys.

8. You’ll need a professional source of audio because the canon 7D has auto levels which means it’s not that great for audio and will clip your audio. Get a H4n zoom recorder for all your audio needs it comes with two XLR inputs for wire/wireless mics.

9. Speaking of wireless mics you’ll need a pair of Sennheiser mics. I suggest getting two because you never know when you could need both.

10. You’ll need reference audio as well. We suggest the Rode video mic with a 3.5m mini plug for the Canon 7D. It records fantastic audio which is great for reference and if you’re lucky you might be able to use if for some natural audio in your project.. that’s if the auto levels don’t ruin it first.

11. I know this is a top 10 list. However, you’ll probably need some other basics such as additional batteries, cables, cards, headphones, on-board lighting and such. Stay tuned for an updated list.

"First feature film made with the Canon EOS 7d"

The Canon EOS 7D is set to be a game-changer in many ways, and among the first to realise this is Australian based, British born filmmaker Jonty Reason.

Jonty's latest feature film "CITY OF THE DAMNED" is currently in production and will be completed by mid 2010 is a psychological horror/thriller story about the struggle between good and evil and how we deal with that turmoil in our everyday lives. It was shot at the new Peninsula Film Studios in Seaford, Victoria and on location throughout the Mornington Peninsula and surrounding areas. 'We are thrilled to be nearing completion of this project', Jonty said recently in an interview for a major newspaper, 'it has been tremendously exciting and exhilarating to see this film through from inception to production. We are hoping to garner interest from The Sundance Film Festival for next year, and have already declined a couple of offers of DVD distribution because we believe this film should be seen in cinemas around the world.


We shot the film on a Canon EOS7D (well actually on two of them) because it gave us the best balance between superb quality of image and portability and the ability to take a movie camera to places where normally it would have been too bulky. I have shot stuff on the Red camera, and that is a great camera, but after the 7D, no indie filmmaker will ever use anything else. Its just amazing what is achievable with this thing!

"Rentar un Canon EOS 7d"

¿Por qué rentar una Canon EOS 7d?

Supongo que muchos se preguntarán, por qué todo el mundo está hablando de esta cámara? ¿Acaso es tan maravillosa?

Como yo lo veo, lo que tiene de maravillosa esta cámara es que acerca a la gente común y corriente tecnologías que hasta hace unos años costaban cientos de miles de dolares. Esto inicio con la cámara RED ONE, en el 2008, si bien era una cámara que el puro cuerpo costaba 17 mil dólares, y ya con un set de primes y todo el equipo rondaba los 50 mil dólares, pues en realidad no era TANTO comparado con lo que costaba una cámara de cine, en realidad ninguna cámara de vídeo, por costosa que fuera, le llegaba a los talones a la RED. La era del cine digital comenzó (a mi muy humilde punto de vista) con la llegada de esta cámara, sin duda Jim Jannard, fundador de RED CINE fue un visionario. Poco después la industria comenzó a dar respuesta a las preguntas que muchos de nosotros nos habíamos preguntado, por qué no hacer una cámara de fotos que tuviera video, las ventajas? Muchas; Empezando por el simple hecho de la óptica, el simple hecho de que puedas utilizar objetivos intercambiables, te abre un mundo de posibilidades. Para continuar, los 24 cuadros por segundo, si bien muchas cámaras de video ya contaban con los 24 cuadros (o los emulaban), en la Canon EOS 7d, es impresionante como se ve cuando trabaja a 24 cuadros por segundo. Todo esto trabajando en full HD (1920X1080), lo cual es una calidad bastante respetable, con un codec diseñado por Canon, el H.264 en el cual la compresión es muy buena.

¿Y todo esto qué quiere decir?

Pues significa, que puedes utilizar una cámara ligera, con objetivos intercambiables, que la puedes crecer, poner un matte box, un follow focus y en realidad tienes una muy respetable cámara de cine... digital, con la cual puedes hacer películas, videos, y demás en una calidad que por el precio sorprende.
